Default Hidden cam in strip club

Can anyone offer any advice on how to sneak a hidden video cam into a strip club on one's person? I know this may be a little crazy, but I'm obsessed with getting shots of a young and gorgeous dancer I know. Watch cam seems like a good option for capturing her while she's on stage (this club is pretty well lit). But what about in the lap dance room? Is there any type of camera that works well in low-light that is unobtrusive enough to fit somewhere on my person without the dancer detecting it? Even while she's rubbing up against me?
    Crazy idea, I know....
    Thanks.

    Exclamation Low light issues!!

Someone here did try that with a Pencam, but it was too dark to get any usable video.

Low light will probably kill that idea, make sure you cover any LED indicators with tape or paint if you use a camera, as they will show up in a dark club environment.

If you want to spend money ($200-$300) getting that footage, then you can use an extreme low light camera and mini-DVR to get it.

The Angel Eyes Mini DVR does come with a button camera which has a fairly good 0.3 Lux* color camera included, which will easily out perform any self contained cams (eg Pencam/Gumcam/Fatcam/Watchcam) and you also have the option with the MiniDVR to buy and plug in a very low light camera if the packaged camera isn't good enough.

Best Price $109 inc shipping Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-DVR-Spy-Col...110447025776QQ (I know it says 1.5lux but I suspect that is a guess as it used to say 3 Lux in the manual.. then 0.3 lux* and they haven't changed the cam as far as I can tell!! )

As I mentioned earlier if the supplied camera doesn't cut it, you can get an extremely low light 0.003 Lux 600 TVL pinhole cam to use with the DVR for around $150 which is virtually hi-def (but B&W only)

*Attached is a video showing the AngelEyes cam and my light meter showing it easily coping with light levels under 1 Lux (down to 0.3lux easily) .. it ain't pretty or in focus, it's just a quick test of it's low light rating, which I will be checking a few of my cams for their lux rating soon.

    Default Thanks, Alchemist

Wow. Thanks, Alchemist, for the prompt and thorough response. I'll check out the Angel Eyes Mini DV. I was thinking Fatcam (that's another name for Camstick Pro, yes?) so I'm glad you told me that Angel Eyes will outperform it in low light conditions.

And a button cam sounds perfect for my situation. I wasn't even thinking along those lines.

    Thanks, man!

I did bring my Camstick Pro / MD80 into a strip club once, but it did not work.

The two major problems are (1) my own safety (2) dim lighting.

IMO, small and compact gadgets in the market now do not have the low light sensitivity required for this activity.

If you are happy with this comment, you may skip all below.

    -------------------------------------------

First of all, you should be aware that all SC know about camera phones, and some also know about non-cellphone spy cameras. If you were seen with suspicious activity, they may search you (which is probably illegal but they do a quick patdown anyway) or hold you until the police arrives to search you (which is legal).

Unlike setting spy gear up somewhere else and leaving it, you are carrying the gear. If you are busted and video evidence found on the cam, there is no way you can deny it.

Because of the above, I recommend sneaking in the smallest device, which means those all-in-one "stickcams" (Camstick Pro, MD80, button cam, keychain cam).

These one-piece cams are good not only because they are inconspicuous, but also because they are not clunky with wires and different pieces to manipulate. The biggest problem is aiming, which takes PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.

Using the spy cam "on the go" is the ultimate challenge for spycamming. You do not have the luxury of time and privacy for the setup.

    (1) The Main Stage

From my experience using the MD80 elsewhere, I think the main stage of the SC that I visit has barely enough light for filming. However, I was not brave enough to try filming because of risk of exposure.

You have to decide whether your SC has enough light for filming, and you have to judge whether the environment is safe enough and you are skillful enough to do the secret filming.

You can either use a regular "stickcam" and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE your aiming and covert hiding in your hand. You may film your neighbor waving the girl over with the green. This way the attention is drawn away from you.

Remember to tape up the annoying LED lights on the stickcam!!

You may also try one of those body-worn button cams like this one:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/New-8GB-USB-SPY-...item4a9bac12fa

I have never used this cam before, therefore I do not know its light sensitivity. Though I bet the hardware of all current cams (such as the sensor) is very similar.

A well hidden button cam in decent lighting (for the particular cam) may give you good frontal shots of the girl approaching you for the green. You also need to practise on the aiming, which may be more difficult using body posture (you are looking up onto the stage, remember). Just make sure you don't tip the girl too much she comes over to feel you up!

Remember you can also use the button cam as a regular stickcam.

    (2) The VIP Room

The chance of getting caught here is (slightly) lower than "in the open". The problem is that it is really darkly lit (and I can say it is true for all SCs). The current stickcam models do not have sufficient low light sensitivity to make any half-decent videos.

If the technology improves, or someone come up with a high sensitivity B&W pinhole in a stickcam body, it may just work.

A button cam for the upclose frontal shots, and a different cam set up elsewhere (eg. top of the back of the sofa seat) looking back towards the action, would be sweeeeeeeeeet!

But I can only dream on .....

I guess the Angel Eye with a replacement high sensitivity B&W pinhole cam may work (I have used "high sen" B&W pinholes with 0.01 lux rating elsewhere, in similar dark conditions). The major concern is concealment.

If you intend to get upclose and personal with your girl, you better not wear the pinhole on your body: they always feel you up your chest!

And I am not happy leaving the whole setup somewhere else looking back towards the action. I would consider doing this if it is a tiny black stickcam, but a clunky two piece gadget with a cable? No way .....

Awesome advice, slim. Thanks. The club I frequent is surprisingly well-lit some nights, and as dark as you can imagine on others. It depends on a lot of factors. Stopped by last week, for example, and the place was lit lower than usual because they were trying to create a spooky, Halloween atmosphere. But very often they have enough lighting around the stage for something like the camstick or button cam to capture the action.

I have managed to get a few stills with my cellphone, believe it or not. Love the idea of the button cam for the main stage but in the LD room, you're right, she'll be feeling my chest. I know this chick, she knows me, and she likes to get very up close and personal. Still, I may be able to wear the cam while sitting at the bar and remove it in the bathroom before going for the LD. Won't get the shot, but won't get caught either.

Another concern is vid cam detectors. This is not a high-end club, so I doubt they have one, but you never know.

I'd save the LD for the nights you don't even have the cam on you... don't mess around with taking it off in the bathroom before the LD - you don't want her to even feel it in your pocket and ask what it is. Why don't you post the cellphone pics for us. Would love to see the result.

Yeah all clubs are different, so it is up to you to assess the surroundings and see if it may work in your place.

The club i visit occasionally is also not a high-end place. In fact, there are no "VIP rooms", just partitioned private booths with curtains (they say this is to make sure nothing "illegal" goes on behind close "doors" ... but hey if you are a trusted regular and big-spender they give you the room furthest away and turn a blind eye upon lots of stuff (well, anything other than the ol' in&out )

If I am to try filming the stage, I prefer a hand-held stickcam than a button cam. I have not used a body cam, but I think it mayl be difficult to aim, particularly when she is upclose - this is because of the client always sit lower than the stage, and you need to find a way to tilt your body cam high up. You may sit further away to get the full view but you may not get enough juicy detail.

However, as I mentioned, many of those button cams are in fact stickcams which can be used handheld.

For handheld devices, the common choices are between "stickcam" and keychain cam. Problem of keychain cam is that it is flat and you need to hold it a bit like a flashlight in order to get the orientation (up/down/left/right) right. This posture raises suspicion.

For stickcams, the common choices are between gumstick cam and Camstick Pro/ MD80. I personally find the MD80 easier to hold between your fingers in concealment. The MD80 comes with a clip attachment which allows your fingers to catch the corners. The bare MD80 or gumstick cam bodies have smooth rounded edges which are difficult to grip firmly. The gumstick cam is also a bit too long for me to hold comfortably.

Alternatively you may wrap (or at least cover the exposed surface of) the cam up with some black and matt fabric material, such as felt or velco strip (the fluffy side). Apart from reducing reflection from the cam and breaking up the smooth surface of the cam, it also makes it more grippy for the hand.

It is not comfortable to hold the cam continuously, but it is better than leaving a cam on the table (disguised or not) because of (1) risk of exposure (obviously) and (2) aiming.

This is the way I would hold the stickcam in between my fingers (I have done this several times in other situations) NOTE that you will be shooting the video upside down (and you'll need to use software to invert the video afterwards)

Just rest your hand on the table and adjust the tilt angle to aim - aiming blindly takes LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF PRACTICE and rehearsals so that you can get the angle right. It also takes a very steady hand to get good long video shots.

You should estimate the distance and angle between your table and the stage, then go home to do a mockup (with similar furniture) and lots and lots of trial runs in order to develop a good aim.

It may be wise not to sit right up by the stage because of (1) risk of exposure (obviously) and (2) difficulty aiming - sitting further away gives the cam a wider field of view which is more likely to include the dancer: you see less detail than upclose, but at least you get a shot!

If you are greedy and sit right up against the stage for closeup shots, keep looking into the dancer's eyes to hold her attention, or raise the other hand with a green, in order to draw her gaze away from your cam hand.

Whenever she is upclose, always keep your eyes glued to her eyes. If her gaze wanders, you may have to resort to touching her (a big "NO NO" but sometimes necessary) on her "less sensitive" body parts like the foot, in order to keep her attention away from your cam hand.

Always remember, if she gets too "personal" with you, you cannot keep your cam hand completely still which will look really suspicious. Forget about filming and move your cam hand away. If you have enough time drop it back into your jacket pocket. if not, the only thing to do is to hide it in your palm.

I know you may get the best shots when she approaches you, but it is also the riskiest time getting busted!

Backdoor tactics - you may wear a thin jacket at all time, one with large side pockets that you can slip you cam in quickly. Keep a hankie in that pocket and take it out to blow your nose to keep up with the appearance, when it is necessary to hide your cam.

    -------------------------------------------

Although I made these suggestions, I really think it is too risky to spycam in these places.

Videotaping on the go is always the most difficult stunt to pull off. Blind aiming has no guarantee of success. You are carrying the gear and there is no denying. Nasty people like the bouncer are right at the scene ready to rough you up, even before handing you over to the police.

And of course, if you got busted, don't even think about showing your face in all the SCs in the region.

People in the SC or similar Vegas-style "entertainment" biz are not the kind gentle type. I don't want to have any brushes with them.

To me, the potential risk far outweighs the gain (there is no guarantee getting good shots - blind aim, dim light etc.) On the other hand, if you crave for excitement, its up to you ...

The AngelEyes Mini-DVR is not a large setup SJ.. the camera is a third the size of a Gumcam, and the Mini-Dvr is is pretty small about the size of two Gumcams side by side, and the packaged camera takes it's supply from the DVR, so no extra batteries, just a very small camera disguised as a button and a very small DVR.. oh and a cable ;)

I'm doing some low-light tests as we speak, and that includes the Button Gumcam you linked above.. and the Button camera that comes packed with AngelEyes Mini-DVR totally outclasses anything in the self-contained DVR range by a factor of 10x. As you say it's a question of concealment, but I'm very very impressed with the AngelEyes cams low light performance for it's size. Perhaps it might work as a button for pants?

More info on the low light to come but it's almost definately the cam to use if you want usable video in a small package, based on my tests.

Here's the cams I'm testing against eachother.. if you own any of them you will be able to make a comparison test on a cam I don't own.. more later :)

Thanks again, all, for the great advice. Right now, I'm thinking slim is right...simply too risky to try this. For a variety of reasons.

That said, the Angel Eyes DVR/Button cam sounds like one helluva setup. Maybe I'll find a use for it sometime in the future.

    And Mojo...as far as the cellphone pics go, they're not much to write home about. I'm too paranoid to post them because I think the risk is too great. But, believe me, you ain't missin' nothin'....;
