Default 808 #16 motion detection newbie question

    Hi all,
I've been trying to understand the concept of motion detection for the 808 16 and I've just made myself more confused. Perhaps it would help if I explained my requirements.

I want to set up the camera in a shower a college, I've done all the prep/fieldwork and I'm ready to go. My problem is this, I can only place the cam in the shower shortly before closing about six pm or so. I need the camera to be operating from 7:30 the next morning onwards for at least 30 minutes (I'm not too ambitious at this stage). What are my options. At the minute I only have the standard 808 16 with the small battery and a set up program on my pc.

    All input greatly appreciated.

With your current gear what you are asking to do is impossible. The 808#16 has a standard battery life of about an hour, maybe more with motion detection. You can solve this by hooking it up to a usb battery at which point space becomes the bottleneck. With a 32 gb card that should give you about 8-10 hours of footage at default settings. Play with the motion detection a bit since high sensitivity can result in recording even very minute changes that are undesirable in some cases.

I've used some small cameras like the camscura and others similar in size - I use motion detection over a weekend and have had success.

I had a similar situation with similar requirements and worked long and hard to get the motion detection to work with external battery. it always failed me.

What I ended up doing was buying a 4000Mh external battery and a 32gb sd card and set the camera to loop record. It worked and recorded for 15 hours and I got the 2 minutes that I really wanted.

Where are you planning on putting the camera? Do you have room for the camera plus a usb battery pack they are approx. 1" x 1/2" x 3" long. If so that setup on continuous record will net you 7 hours. On motion detection a lot longer but you'll get a bunch of short clips and have to go through them all.
